FAMILY FARM
We’re invested in improving the future of farming through the use of strong full blood Limousin Genetics.
Sammerich Farms History
Growing up Joost van der Heiden worked on Limousin and Belgium Blue herds in the Netherlands. After completing his education in agriculture he moved to Canada where he met his wife Carolyn. Carolyn grew up on a beef farm that finished commercial cattle. Sammerich Farms was purchased in 1999 and named after the farm that Joost worked on in the Netherlands. Since 1999 Joost and Carolyn have been raising Limousin cattle with the help of their children Glenna, Nicholas and Samuel. Joost and Carolyn initially had some full blood Limousin cattle but had gotten away from registering the herd until 2020. While their herd has been strictly bred to Limousin bulls and the herd lineage can be traced back many generations it is considered a commercial herd.
In order to improve the registered percentages of their animals Joost and Carolyn once again began purchasing full blood Limousin cattle in the spring of 2021 from Brown Eden Limousin. While the goal is to improve their herds percentage on paper they are also working towards expanding the purebred and full blood portion of their herd.
Centre Creek Farms History
Glenna van der Heiden and Tom Flewwelling purchased the Flewwelling family farm in the summer of 2020, becoming the 4th generation to own the farm. Glenna and Tom were both raised on Limousin farms and have always wanted to raise cattle. Glenna graduated from the University of Guelph with a Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Biology and currently works for OMAFRA. Tom works as a mechanic out of the business on farm. In the spring of 2021 they decided on the herd name of Centre Creek Farms and purchased their first three full blood Limousin cows from Brown Eden Limousin. They decided to develop a full blood herd because producers will always need to come back to the full blood genetics on order to improve their herds.
